Google Suite Tools for remote teaching: a response to COVID 19 disruptions

In response to the AAU Secretriat’s call to support higher education staff in their unplanned mission of remote education as a response to the COVID 19 GLOBAL crisis,  the AAU North Africa Regional Office has launched it’s new platform AAU-NARO Academy for training and development.

On 22 April 2020 during the launch ceremony,  the AAU–NARO Academy platform hosted an online workshop in Arabic on “Google Suite Tools for remote teaching: a response to COVID 19 disruptions”. The workshop was held in attendance of Professor Etienne Ehouan Ehile (AAU Secretary General),  Professor Amany ElSharif (Director of NARO), Professor Faiza Osman (Director of EARO), Mr. Maxwell Amo-Hoyte (AAU Director of Finance)  and Ms Nodumo Dhlamini (AAU Director of ICT Services, Communications and Knowledge Management).

The workshop took the academic staff, step by step, on building online classrooms and setting up quiz assignments. The AAU-NARO Academy is supported by the Association of African universities as a response to COVID 19 disruptions and is currently focusing on building capacities to use virtual tools for remote learning.

It’s worth to mention that within the scope of NARO to encourage youth, the new platform is “home made” and was designed and created by an Egyptian young man. The workshop was also facilitated by a young fellow specialist in learning management systems.

  1. Adel Altawaty says:

    Dear AAU-NARO academy director,
Ramadan Kareem. We are pleased to hear about the launch of the AAU-NARO Academy platform, though a bit late. We at the Libyan International Medical University, Benghazi, Libya have made significant steps towards use of online learning moving from our already used Moodle platform to live teaching through zoom and google suite products. Multiple workshops were carried out for our faculty by our IT staff. We have also carried out assessments online with proctoring using non-expensive approaches.
We certainly like to be part of the NARO members to learn and contribute.
    Best regards
