AAU/University of Abuja Workshop on Online Teaching and Learning Management

Background and Rationale
The dawn of the twenty-first century is being recognized as a knowledge era, of which higher education plays a crucial role. The primary goals of higher education institutions are enhancing and maintaining academic excellence, scholarship, and public service. Expectations of education quality and, the changing paradigms in teaching and learning are some of the challenges faced by the teaching fraternity all the time. These, when coupled with tremendous increase in demand for higher education calls for concerns regarding how universities accommodate the masses without compromising the quality of teaching and learning.

With the above trends occurring in almost every institution of higher learning, it has become imperative that faculty develop an aptitude for life-long learning and have an exposure to advancements in their field through continuing training and exposure to new knowledge such as online teaching and learning management. Online learning and digitized education are growing exponentially every day, not to mention the perpetuation of global massive open online courses (MOOC). Students of today, referred to as “digital natives” access free courses from adroit subject experts all over the world without boundaries space and time.
