Call for Participants – Database of African Theses and Dissertation (DATAD-RIII) Workshop, September 12-14, 2017

The Association of African Universities, AAU and Academy of Sciences of South Africa, ASSAf jointly invites you to the DATAD-R III workshop. This workshop is the third component following the past two successful DATAD workshops (2016 that set out standards and criteria for harvesting, and 2017 that provided hands-on training for both Librarians and IT support staff for University libraries). The AAU has secured funding to organize the DATAD-RIII workshop in Pretoria, South Africa from September 12-14, 2017

The workshop will build on the gains made following the past two workshops and will provide librarians and IT support staff in libraries more hands-on skills to set up Institutional Repositories (IR) platforms in their institutions and to efficiently manage such platforms.

Although this workshop is targeting institutions that were part of the first two workshops, new institutions seeking to setup IRs or old ones seeking to join the DATAD-R platform are all welcome to register and participate in the workshop. Based on feedback from the two workshops, more time has been allocated for hands-on practicals and there will be two sessions again namely

  1. IR management training for the librarians and
  2. IR setup, configuration and customization for IT staff.

There will also be interpretation services for francophone participants. The university librarians from francophone Africa are strongly encouraged to participate in this workshop. See below the program structure event for the meeting.
