Eight Wisconsin Students Receive Award

WisconsinThe Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Sun Baohong, has presented awards to eight outstanding Chinese language students of Wisconsin International University College.

Speaking at the awards ceremony , H.E. Sun Baohong said: “When we met last year, I promised I would come back as I know that students of this university take learning (of the) Chinese language very seriously.

“I want to congratulate these students on their world vision, and consciousness of seizing opportunities as well as hardworking spirit.

She added: “The promotion of (the) grand undertaking of China-Africa traditional friendship relies on people who know China and Africa very well. Studying Chinese is imperative. I encourage students present today to overcome difficulties and keep studying Chinese in an earnest manner.”

The Ambassador praised Wisconsin’s Chinese language teacher Mr Liu Guanqun for his dedication to teaching the language while working with limited resources. Ambassador Baohong presented a box of books and materials to the school.

On future plans, Ms Baohong added that China plans to offer exchange opportunities through which teachers and lecturers would benefit in Science and Mathematics, which the Chinese traditionally excel in.

Wisconsin’s Vice Chancellor Professor Kofi Oduro-Afriyie thanked the Chinese Ambassador for her government’s continued support to the institution through the awards scheme.He added that the university would continue to offer the Chinese language course, with a view to offering Chinese at diploma and degree levels.

  • Erica Odwira Opoku
  • Love-Dora Mensah
  • Ezenagu Ejike Kelvin
  • Ogubuike Joshua Chukuemeka
  • Hinneh Erica Kumi

This event was attended by Wisconsin’s Registrar, Mr Frank Yeboah, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dr Kingsley Andoh-Kumi, as well as other senior members of faculty and staff of the institution.

Wisconsin University College offers a Chinese language course as well as other diploma, degree and postgraduate degree programmes.

About Wisconsin International University College: The establishment of the University College was initiated and facilitated by Dr. John Buuck, President of Wisconsin International University (WIU) in the United States of America and Rev. Dr. Paul K. Fynn of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ghana in 1998. It received its Interim Accreditation in January 2000 under the name University College of Wisconsin International University – Ghana (UCWIU-Gh). It was thus one of the first private universities to receive accreditation. It began its operations in August 2000 under Rev. David Asante Dartey as the Director and Togbe Kwao Anipati IV as Dean of Academic Studies with nine International MBA students, the first MBA programme to be run by a Private University in Ghana.

Wisconsin International University College, Ghana (WIUC-Gh) has been accredited by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) and is affiliated to the University of Ghana, Legon, the University of Cape Coast and to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)

Students of the university are from Ghana and other African Countries such as: Nigeria, Cote D’Ivoire, Mali, Togo, Benin, Egypt, Congo DR, Niger, Guinea, Liberia, Gabon, Chad, Cameroun, Burkina Faso, Kenya, Liberia, Niger, Sierra Leone and Gambia.
