Institutional Repository (DSpace) Training for IR Managers and IR IT Support Teams| 20-22 February 2018, Accra, Ghana

The Association of African Universities, AAU warmly invites you to its DATAD-R IV Workshop. The 3-day workshop will provide training on setting up and managing an Institutional Repository platform and is for Universities, other tertiary and research institutions. The workshop will provide hands-on sessions for participants on how to set up Institutional Repository (IR) platforms (see programme outline below) in their institutions and efficiently manage such platforms to market their institutions. Guidelines on becoming trusted repositories will be shared and harvesting of repositories through DATAD-R will be addressed.

 DATE:              Tuesday 20 to Thursday, 22 February 2018

VENUE:           AAU Secretariat, Trinity Avenue, East Legon, Accra

Travel, Accommodation and Conferencing

Participants will be responsible for their own accommodation and travel-related costs, such as flights. Participants outside Ghana need to ensure that they leave enough time for visa applications. It is suggested that participants arrive latest on the Monday evening, as the training starts on Tuesday morning.

The AAU will deal with the registrations and issue invitation letters for visa and other purposes and will convey all logistics information.

Cost covers workshop venue, snacks and lunches for the duration of the workshop, and training materials,

Two parallel sessions will be presented:

  1. IR management training for IR Managers; and
  2. IR set-up, configuration and customisation for IR information technology (IT) personnel.

NB: lnstitutions are encouraged to send at least 2 participants (one for each section). But institutions can send more than 2 participants.

·         Introduction to DSpace

·         Creating users and user groups

·         Creating communities and collections

·         Assigning roles and establishing workflows

Day 1

·         Setting up an IR server

·         Installing DSpace

 

Day 2

·         Content preparation and uploading and management

·         Item mapping within collections

·         Editing content

·         Harvesting

·         Embargoes

 

Day 2

·         Configuration DSpace

·         Customising DSpace

·         Integrating DSpace into institutional website

·         Upgrading to current stable versions of DSpace installation

·         Integrating DSpace with other platforms

Day 3: IT Managers and IR Managers

·         Content development and management

·         Making your repository more visible by means of:

o   Uniform Resource Identifiers (URI)/ Digital Object Identifiers (DOI)

o   Google Analytics

o   RSS feeds

o   Other social media platforms

·         Tracking visits through online statistical monitoring

·         Open Researcher and Contributor Identification (ORCID)

·         Current Research Information System (CRIS)

·         Integration of DSpace with other Open Source platforms(OS)

·         Upgrading to recent stable versions
