Invitation to AAU Management Development (MADEV) Workshop

THEME: Strategic Thinking and Change Management: Key for African Universities|

18-21 February, 2020 | Mauritius

The workshop will look at the Concept of Strategic Thinking and Management and their application in the context of Universities and other Tertiary institutions in planning, decision-making, control and operations.

The current global competition requires tertiary institutions to excel in knowledge-creation which is relevant to solving societal problems. There is therefore the compelling need for vice-chancellors to strategically shape how institutional activities are conducted. Without a well articulated and easily implementable strategy, vice-chancellors struggle to proactively plan and run their institutions.  The Road Map to distinguishing an institution,  giving it a competitive advantage, and achieving a good overall performance all become unclear when a strong and clear strategy is not in place.  In the absence of a strategy for the Higher Education Institution (HEI) , managers have no overarching business rationale for moulding the actions and decisions initiated across the university into a cohesive whole, no underlying institutional basis for initiating cross department operations into a team effort,  hence no conscious institutional model for generating profits. Crafting, implementing and monitoring an effective strategy assists HEIs to become very successful and stay successful.
