 Key aspects of the workshop

The aim of the workshop is to help Higher & Tertiary Education Personnel to develop and acquire a deeper understanding, knowledge, Skills and experience of Academic Writing. The intensive training also aims to equip Higher and Tertiary Education personnel with the requisite knowledge and skills for academic writing through cases studies as well as highly interactive and practical sessions. This enables sharing of knowledge, skills and experiences among participants who are interested in updating/upgrading and retooling themselves in relation to contemporary issues in the writing of dissertations, theses, research articles, proposals, abstracts and books.

Some of the key aspects to be covered include but are not limited to;

  • The types of Academic Writing,
  • Use of the Bloom’s Taxonomy,
  • Areas of Academic Writing which authors do not normally do well, issues that normally lead to the rejection of written academic work.
  • The automated use of inserting the different types of Headings and issues that come along with them,
  • Use of different ICT tools in the formulation of data collection tools, Data Collection Tools and Data Analysis,
  • The research process and many others.

SOME OF THE WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES INCLUDE;

  • Equipping participants with the background knowledge that informs them about contemporary and relevant Research and Academic Writing Skills including the use of Bloom’s Taxonomy.
  • Educating participants on the practices that promote the acceptance of the written academic items.
  • Exposing to participants the need to better their academic writing skills.
  • Equip participants with knowledge, skills and practical experience for quality research output.
  • Upskilling participants on the research process and how it is linked to Academic Writing.
  • Selection of relevant and contemporary research topics, formulation of sound statements of problems, aims, objectives and research questions, carrying out relevant and appropriate literature review,
  • Matching of research approaches and paradigms to appropriate data collection tools and analysis.
  • Upgrading the participants’ knowledge and skills needed to assist & supervise students’ research projects properly as well as appropriate marking of students’ research projects/dissertations and theses.
  • Encouraging personnel to work towards having Intellectual Property (IP) through producing patents (in case of tangible products of research) & copyrights (in terms of written research work or software).
