Building on the success of the 2024 and 2025 editions, this year’s summit adopts the theme “e-Learning Priorities for African Universities,” a deliberate shift inward to ask a fundamental question: What are the real, actionable e-learning priorities for African universities today and in the near future?

The Summit will bring together higher education leaders, policymakers, instructional designers, and industry experts from across the continent to engage in critical dialogue on shaping the future of digital education in Africa. The programme will explore key thematic areas including infrastructure and access, quality assurance and innovative pedagogy, and digital skills development aligned with workforce needs.

Participants will engage in interactive panel discussions, case study presentations, and collaborative dialogue sessions covering strategies for bridging the digital divide, enhancing programme quality, integrating AI in teaching and learning, and aligning curricula with evolving workforce demands.

A core outcome of the summit will be a consolidated report documenting the key e-learning priorities identified by African universities, along with a collection of practical case studies and best practices from diverse institutions made available to all AAU members. The summit addresses the urgent need for African universities to articulate and act on their e-learning priorities in the face of rapid technological change. By providing a platform for surfacing institutional challenges, facilitating peer learning, and identifying systemic gaps, the programme aims to produce tangible outcomes, including:

  • Enhanced networking and collaboration among universities, policymakers, and private sector actors.
  • Increased awareness of resources, partnerships, and support available through AAU and its partners.
  • A clear roadmap for continental collaboration and targeted support for member institutions.

This integrated summit represents a critical step in ensuring that e-learning across Africa is aligned with the specific priorities of its universities, improving access and equity, enhancing quality and relevance, building institutional capacity, fostering regional collaboration, and leveraging technology, including AI, to improve pedagogy and learner support.
