- Background
The Association of African Universities (AAU) is a membership association that serves as the voice of higher education institutions (HEIs) in Africa. Its mission is to promote the quality of higher education in Africa and strengthen its contribution to African development by fostering collaboration among its member institutions; providing support to their core functions of teaching, learning, research and community engagement; and facilitating critical reflection on, and consensus-building around, issues affecting higher education and the development of Africa. AAU therefore promotes cooperation and exchange of ideas among HEIs in Africa; collects, classifies and disseminates information on higher education and research, particularly in Africa; facilitates cooperation between its members and the international academic world; publicizes and advocates the educational and related needs of African HEIs; and facilitate the exchange of information and experience among members of the academic community, and promotes best practices.
In pursuit of its mission, the AAU Secretariat engages with partners and stakeholders all year to raise funding towards support of the various programmers aimed at supporting the HEIs on the African continent to promote the delivery of quality education by all the HEIs on the continent. While fundraising is a prerogative of the management, The AAU professional staff provide support to management in this line.
2.0. Objectives of the Assignment
The objective of the assignment is aimed at building the capacity of the professional staff at AAU to enable them support senior management by giving them the skills to be able to write proposals for management to carry through with the search for donor/development partners the leadership acumen and managerial skills of AAU professional staff to enable them engage strategically with the new and emerging challenges and complexity of programmes. This knowledge and skill achieved will be provide the needed skill in supporting African higher education initiatives, promote innovation, manage change and sustain achievement made so far among the HEIs on the continent.
The consultant is required to prepare teaching material/aids for the 2-day workshop and to facilitate and deliver the lecture to all the professional staff at the headquarters of the Association of African Universities in Accra. Consultants would be expected to facilitate the training on the following key areas case study, group work and other interactive methodology.
- Strategic Thinking and Management
- Fostering Donor/development Partnership
- Project Proposal Writing
All modules will be confined to and covered in 2 full days (8:30 am – 17:30 pm) and the language of instruction will be English.
3.0 Requests for Expression of Interest
The Association of African Universities now invites eligible and qualified consultant to indicate their interest in providing the services. Interested consultants must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services, giving a description of similar assignments undertaken, experience with similar organizations in similar environments and conditions, evidence and familiarity with international organisations, among others.
- Qualifications of Consultant
The consultant should have more than five years’ experience in resource mobilization, project management and strategic planning and proposal writing experience. Such professional experience within African higher educational institutions circles will be highly desirous.
5.0 Selection of Consultant
Though the project is under the SIDA the consultant will be selected in accordance with the Selection of Individual consultant method as set out in the ACBF Procurement Guidelines for Grant Recipients (July 2011) “Consultant Guidelines”), which can be downloaded from the ACBF website:www.acbf-pact.org.
