Accra, Ghana – 18 June 2025 – The Association of African Universities (AAU), in collaboration with eLearnAfrica, has unveiled a landmark initiative to design, develop, and deploy professional development courses via the AAU-eLearnAfricaLMS platform. This pan-African effort seeks to enhance the skills and employability of Africa’s workforce while aligning with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework.

The initiative, “Professional Learning for Africa’s Future,” represents a transformative step in democratizing access to high-quality, industry-relevant learning across the continent. It is built on the belief that by harnessing Africa’s intellectual and institutional expertise, the continent can produce scalable, accessible, and contextually relevant courses that meet real-time development needs.

What the Initiative Stands For

  • Empowerment through Learning: The project champions inclusive, flexible, and competency-based learning to boost job-readiness and mobility across African borders.
  • African-Centered Content: Courses will be led by African experts and institutions, rooted in local knowledge systems and designed with a global outlook.
  • Strategic Alignment: Thematic areas and skills development priorities are informed by Agenda 2063 (Aspirations 1 and 6) and the AfCFTA’s goals for regional integration, trade facilitation, and labor mobility.
  • Scalability & Access: Hosted on the AAU-eLearnAfricaLMS, all content will be mobile-friendly, low-bandwidth optimized, and credentialed through digital badges and micro-certifications.

Call for Expressions of Interest

As part of this transformative effort, AAU and eLearnAfrica are inviting Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and Academic/Training Institutions to express interest in partnering to co-develop courses under this initiative.
