Why This Summit Matters Now
The demand for robust online learning in African higher education has become greater than ever before. As universities strive to remain relevant in a rapidly evolving world, they face significant challenges: infrastructure limitations, resource constraints, and limitations in the use of digital technologies. Despite progress in policy and technology adoption, the gap between aspiration and implementation remains wide. Thus, ALS 2026 has been designed to bridge the gap by providing the tools, know-how, and support that African universities urgently need.
What Makes ALS 2026 Unique?
This is not just another conference; it’s a fully immersive, Build-As-You-Learn experience, where participants develop instructional design outcomes at every stage of the workshop. Every participant works directly on their own institution’s courses and materials, ensuring immediate, practical outcomes. Over five intensive days, you will:
- Develop a fully functional, contextually relevant online course ready for deployment.
- Transform traditional curricula into modular, competency-based micro-learning units.
- Apply leading digital tools for content creation, assessment, and gamification.
- Benefit from hands-on site visits to member universities and expert-led collaborative sessions.
- Present your project and leave with a clear, scalable strategy for institutional transformation.
Programme Structure and Fees
ALS 2026’s curriculum walks you step-by-step from instructional design to digital teaching best practices, emphasizing collaboration and real-world application. The workshop fees are:
- AAU Member Universities: USD 700 per participant
- AAU Non-Member Universities: USD 800 per participant
Spots are limited and will be confirmed by September 2, 2026, upon registration and payment. Registration includes all training materials, certificates, lunch, and refreshments. For flexibility, however, participants are encouraged to make arrangements for their accommodation and dinners.
What You Will Need
To make the most out of this opportunity, participants should bring a laptop, relevant course materials for online conversion, and most importantly, a readiness to engage actively in every session.
The Lasting Impact
Beyond being a workshop, ALS 2026 is a movement toward a brighter, more inclusive, and resilient future for African higher education. By equipping university leaders and educators with the skills to deliver high-impact online learning, the summit lays the groundwork for sustainable, scalable innovation across the continent.
