Deadline Extended to March 1, 2024 – Apply as a Sponsored Participant: AAU-British Academy Writing Workshop for Sub-Saharan Africa (Early Career Researchers)

Writing for Sustainable Development: Developing, mentoring and strengthening African grant and research writing for publication

Preamble

The University of Nottingham in partnership with the Association of African Universities and the British Council, Ghana, with funding support from the British Academy (BA) will hold a writing workshop in Accra, Ghana from 12-14 March 2024. Sponsorship Package

A total of twelve (12) Early Career Researchers from diverse disciplines including management, education, humanities and sciences will be sponsored by the British Academy to participate in this workshop.  The sponsorship covers –

  • Participation/ Registration Fees (covering meals, Workshop training materials and certificates)
  • Accommodation for three nights (the workshop days)

All other costs, such as local transportation, would be borne by the sponsored participants.

Eligibility

Applicants will need to meet the following criteria of eligibility –

(1) proof of residency in Ghana (Ghana card or other proof)

(2) ‘early career research status’ (within 5 years of doctoral award);

(3) written and spoken English language proficiency;

(4) commitment to submitting a completed article within 12 months after the workshop.

The organisers, in consultation with participating journal Editors, will review all applications and select the strongest 12 candidates to be sponsored to participate in this workshop.

 

 Application process

The application form requires participants to submit the following:

(1) an abstract and detailed outline of a proposed article focusing on issues in your field of interest,  including issues related to gender

(2) a sample of previous writing which may be a draft of work they wish to develop through the workshop training,

(3) a statement of support from their university showing that they will be given time to attend the workshop and for writing thereafter,

(4) a draft publication plan,

(5) a short curriculum vitae, and

(6) a statement about how they will disseminate their workshop learning to others in their localities, including early-career researchers, postgraduate students, and colleagues in their home institutions and networks.
