The China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT), has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Stella Maris Polytechnic to establish an academic and professional relationship, including student exchange.

The memorandum of understanding is to promote and accelerate programs in science and technology, research, training and extension in various technical disciplines of engineering and other related business and management courses. According to the MOU, the program is intended to establish and develop cooperation as a mutually beneficial relationship which aims at jointly pursuing original and applied research of mutual interest. The Director for Student Affairs at the Stella Maris Polytechnic, welcomed the MOU describing it as a boost to the educational sector of Liberia. “The MOU is good—it will allow students to improve on their education when they graduate from the Stella Maris Polytechnic. It will also help teachers who will want to get their Ph.D. and come back and teach,” he noted.

Stella Maris Alumnus give back to School

Former graduates of the Stella Maris Polytechnic known as the “Liberian Chinese Trained Scholars” gave their alma mater 300 e-books in order to create an e-Library. The books were given alongside hard copies for students to have access. The students said giving the books is their way of paying back. The e-library is fully operational with the availability of internet; students will access the library through the internet.

The Stella Maris Polytechnic (SMP), formerly the Don Bosco Polytechnic, is owned and operated by the Catholic Archdiocese of Monrovia. The Stella Maris Polytechnic is the outgrowth of the Arthur Barclay Technical Institute (ABTI) (first named Arthur Barclay Vocational Institute). The Arthur Barclay Business College is named in honor of President Arthur Barclay, the Catholic Church’s first legal Advisor who welcomed the Catholic Missionaries to Liberia in 1906. The Institute was officially inaugurated on August 8, 1979
