May 2, 2023Invitation to Participate in a DAF-EAC Research for Impact Webinar: High-level stakeholder engagement session for the dissemination of research findings on the Demographics of African Faculty (DAF) – Lessons from the East African Community (EAC) | Wednesday 3rd May 2023| 11:00am-12:30pm GMT
The AAU, as a partner of the Demographics of African Faculty – East African Community (DAF EAC), Consortium is inviting higher education stakeholders (from all regions of the continent) to join a stakeholder dissemination webinar, being organised under the theme: Research for Impact: High-level stakeholder engagement session for the dissemination of research findings on the Demographics of African Faculty – Lessons from the East African Community on Wednesday 3rd May 2023.
The Demographics of African Faculty in the East Africa Community (DAF-EAC) is a project undertaken by a consortium comprised of the Inter-University Council of East Africa (IUCEA), Association of African Universities (AAU), Education Sub Saharan Africa (ESSA ) and the Population Reference Bureau (PRB). DAF EAC follows the initial study on Demographics of African Faculty in Ghana, which provided important demographic data and identified challenges concerning faculty in the country. DAF-EAC seeks to assess the status of higher education faculty in the East Africa region in terms of numbers, distribution by gender and areas of study. Specifically, the project comprises four components, which include background research, analysis of current and future faculty demand, stakeholder engagement and dissemination of project findings, and co-creation of solutions to address the faculty challenges. The study was funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, and focuses on six partner states of the East African community, namely Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The two-year project also focuses on studying the challenges that higher education institutions face, with respect to faculty to student ratios, and the composition of faculty, which directly affect the quality of education. It aimed at increasing the ability of higher education stakeholders to plan and implement evidence informed responses to improve the numbers of quality faculty within higher education institutions – using the case of the East African Community.
The webinar being organised will provide the platform to share insights on the research findings of this two-year research with stakeholders in the higher education space while creating room for them to discuss the project’s outputs and developments. It is envisaged that participants will be well equipped with information which will help them better plan for quality faculty in their own institutions.
The Webinar is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 3rd May 2023 from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm GMT.
