Overview/ Benefits of the course

The course emphasizes the importance of constructing a message that is understood, that is relevant, and that is also meaningful to the audience. In this course we cover four areas, the first being the introduction, where we emphasize the importance of meaning in any communicative events, in this particular case – Public Speaking event. The course also looks into the dynamic process of public speaking and its relevance into the meaning making process. The course also deals with public speaking as a multimodal meaning making process. It is an undeniable fact that technology has changed the dynamics of communication where producers of messages are able to combine different semiotics resources in order to produce a multimodal whole that is to say different modes are combined to make meaning, therefore we cannot focus on this particular meta. The course also looks at perception and its role in the meaning making process As people have a different way and different perception of the world, we realize the world in a different way depending on who we are and where we are, therefore, perception is also important for the meaning making and meaning taking process It is expected that at the end of this course, students will take an exam in order to successfully complete this course, it is also expected that the students will engage with each other and also with the facilitator, during the online discussion forums.
