April 22, 2016Special invitation to a AAU: University Advancement Workshop for University Leaders in Africa from 28 – 30 June 2016 at the Kingdom Hotel Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
Theme: “University Advancement – A Systemic Approach: The Key Role of the VC and Senior University Staff”
Esteemed Colleagues,
It is my great pleasure to formally invite you to attend the upcoming workshop on “University Advancement – A Systemic Approach: The Key Role of the Vice Chancellor and Senior University Staff”
Ongoing University Advancement is one of the key imperatives for all Africa Universities and it is far more than gaining philanthropic funding for our Universities. This is an obvious important dimension of successful University Advancement, but only one element as well as one of the desired outcomes of what should be a systemic and ongoing journey on which the University in its entirety should embark – led by the Vice Chancellor and with the co-ownership of the University Council as well of key managers at various levels in the University.
It cannot be treated as a mere ‘add- on’ to the existing university functions, it should rather be incorporated as an integral part of the very ‘being’ of the institution. It comes with its own challenges and needs – of which the requisite leadership competencies of the Vice Chancellor and key managers holds the key. It requires different ways of doing, different paradigms and amongst others, a fundamental transformation of the institutional cultural. It also comes with special investment needs in people, structures, systems, technology and infrastructure (remember: one cannot fly on empty!).
For this purpose it is vital that we as University Leaders should avail ourselves of this wonderful opportunity to workshop all the aforementioned vital aspects of University Advancement, to share and learn from best practices in this regard; and, in a manner befitting to the contextual realities of our Africa University, deliberate on the best way forward in terms of appropriate application in our respective institutions.
Do not miss out on this wonderful opportunity.
Looking forward to our discussions against the backdrop of the magnificent Victoria Falls!
Yours faithfully
Prof. Etienne Ehile
Secretary General
